Bathurst Grange Distillery Wins Two Double Gold Medals at San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Bathurst Grange Distillery has been awarded two Double Gold medals at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition for Rose Garden Gin and Bourbon Cask Single Malt Whisky. Their Rose Garden Gin was one of only two gins to receive the Double Gold accolade in the Flavoured Gins category, placing it in theTop Two Flavoured Gins Globally. First Release Bourbon Cask Single Malt Whisky was also awarded Double Gold making it one of the Top Seven Australian Single Malt Whiskies.

Founded in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the oldest and largest competition of its kind and an SFWSC medal is a universally recognised indicator of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. The Double Gold medal is awarded to the very few entries that receive Gold medal ratings by all members of the judging panel. These are among the finest products in the world.

Distilled with locally sourced heirloom malt barley, Bathurst Grange Bourbon Cask Whisky is the distillery’s first whisky release, aged in ex-bourbon casks for more than three years on the family farm in Bathurst, NSW.

The distillery’s location makes it one of the highest-altitude distilleries in Australia at 700m, and Toby Jones, Co-founder and Head Distiller at Bathurst Grange, believes this contributes to the whisky’s unique flavour and success.

“Technique is one thing but location is critical to making a good whisky, and our high altitude combined with the temperate Bathurst climate means we’re able to make some bloody good single malt whisky.”

Toby Jones, Co-founder and Head Distiller, Bathurst Grange Distillery.

Rose Garden Gin uses rose petals from the rose garden at The Grange, planted by Nick’s Grandmother in the 1970s. These are steeped and distilled, infusing a classic juniper gin base with their sweet, fragrant flavour. The palate is juniper forward with hints of citrus and an elegant smooth finish. This is Rose Garden Gin's third accolade after success at the London Spirits Competition earlier this year and Melbourne Royal Australian Distilled Spirits Awards in 2022.

It is World Whisky Day this Saturday and Australian Whiskies are taking centre stage as some of the best in the world.

“Being World Whisky Day, it sure is great timing for us to introduce our whisky to the world. Our first whisky won double gold at the biggest international spirits competition, how good is that?! We've been celebrating ever since we heard the news.”

Nick Jones, Co-founder, Bathurst Grange Distillery.
